1. The One-Minute TIP

Highly successful people work from a "play book". They
design a strategy, create a road-map, and follow the path
to their ultimate goal. They know what their most important
tasks are today, what they will focus on next week, and
(assuming there are no major revisions in the plan) they
can tell you where they will be a year from now. They have
a strategy!

2. Welcome Notes

How can it be June 15th already? It's hard to believe
summer is well underway and next week will be the longest
day of the year. The good news, of course, is that for all
our subscribers "down south", winter is almost half-over
and spring is around the corner.

Every year, Mary and I promise ourselves that "this year
we'll have a summer", go to the beach, have some picnics,
go camping, whatever. We used to let the summers slip away
and each year we'd wake up and realize it was September
already! The past few years we've planned more carefully
and we've had wonderful summers. Get a calendar, gather the
family, take an hour to plan and make sure you have a
summer this year!

Planning and appropriate action are the keys to getting
most of the things we want in life, and I want to invite
you to take ACTION about your level of customer care.
Partnering with your best customers is the key to
extraordinary profits.

Businesses that flourish, from one-person operations to
multi-nationals, do so by developing extraordinary customer
relationships, and it doesn't happen by accident! Whether
you own your business, or work for someone else, your
success depends on your customers. Join JoAnna Brandi and
me this Tuesday (day after tomorrow - no time to waste!

more profitable relationships with your best clients.

3:  Better Strategies Bring Greater Success

As long-time subscribers know, I am passionate about
helping people reach their goals and create the lives they
truly want. I am not terribly concerned that we all get
rich or drive fancy cars, because we each have our own
definitions of "the good life"! (Think how crowded it would
be if we all lived on the same beach!)

But I am passionate about developing tools and systems that
empower thousands of people to create the life they truly
want, and I am profoundly frustrated that more of us don't
achieve that level of personal success.

Very few people define "the good life" in terms that are
unusual or difficult to achieve. We want the ordinary
things of life. We want healthy families and enough money
to be comfortable and secure. We want to travel or perhaps
have a second home in the country. Some people define
success as having their own business or leaving a legacy.

Whatever your dreams, most of us want the ordinary things
that thousands of other people have already achieved and we
are working hard for them, and yet too many of us are no
closer to "the good life". What's going on?

The problem is that we are using ineffective strategies. We
are working very hard, but not making progress. I believe
it was Peter Drucker who first said that the ultimate
failure is doing very efficiently that which ought not be
done at all!

Are you using the most effective strategies to reach your
goals? Is your plan working? Do you have a well-thought-out
strategy, or are you going along, working hard and hoping
for the best?

Highly successful people work from a "play book". They
design a strategy, create a road-map, and follow the path
to their ultimate goal. They know what their most important
tasks are today, what they will focus on next week, and
(assuming there are no major revisions in the plan) they
can tell you where they will be a year from now. They have
a strategy!

It's often said that five minutes of planning can save
hours of wasted effort, and I think that's true. "Those who
fail to plan are planning to fail."

If your definition of "the good life" is something
thousands of other people have achieved, and you are not
making adequate progress, I encourage you to take a look at
the strategies you are using.

Highly successful people do certain things, and for the
most part, they are simple, ordinary things that we can all
copy. Here's just a short list:

1. They have the courage to choose specific, concrete
goals. They know they cannot do everything, so they make

2. They focus on personal development first, external
achievement second. They know that to have more, they must
first become more.

3. They learn from experts. They study and use techniques
that have worked for others, even if at first they seem
expensive or uncomfortable.

4. They take time to plan and they follow their plan to
completion. If they aren't getting the results they
anticipated, they review and devise a better plan.

5. They work hard at working smart. They are not easily
distracted and they never give up.

We live in the most amazing time in human history and you
can achieve just about anything you want, IF YOU HAVE A
GOOD PLAN and are willing to pay the price. If you are not
making the progress you desire, check and double-check the
quality of your planning. Get expert advice. Invest in
training. Get a coach. And then persistent until you reach
your final goal.

4. Quotes of the Week

"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of
things which matter least".
                                      -- Goethe

"Two little words that can make the difference: START NOW."
                                      -- Mary C. Crowley

"The reason so many people never get anywhere in life is
because when opportunity knocks, they are out in the
backyard looking for four-leaf clovers."
                                      -- Walter Chrysler

"What gets measured, gets done."
                                      -- Edward Deming

5. Strictly Business:  Leaders Should Stay Ahead of the Pack

One of the most over-looked traits of a business leader is
that they...lead.

As I work with business owners and managers, one of the key
things I observe is the need for the leader to stay ahead
of the pack. There are a zillion things to do as the boss.
It is easy to get bogged down in day-to-day operations and
we forget to learn, to plan, and to maintain a vision for
the business. And yet your employees, your customers and
the future of your business depend on your ability to set
the standards and lead the way.

Bill Gates is reported to take a week off every three
months, for thinking. I understand he maintains a retreat
on Hood Canal and often goes there alone to review and
renew. Apparently, the practice has worked well for him.

Benjamin Franklin treasured the time on his trips across
the Atlantic because they gave him perspective. C.S. Lewis
often took walks of up to 20 miles, in order to have time
to think. Hundreds of successful business leaders have
reported that their most productive time is the hour they
spend planning.

When I coach business leaders, I encourage them to divide
their planning and visioning time into two components:
Business Design and Personal Growth. Both are essential.

Plan the future of your business. Design the growth you
want to see. Choose the course, develop a strategy for the
future. And then, be sure your personal development program
equips you to be the leader your company will need in the

Customer Care Strategies to Build Your Business
   with JoAnna Brandi

"Customer Service" is a department, and if you have to
promise your customers that you will serve them, you've
already lost the battle. Today's standard is extraordinary,
gold-plated, exquisite "Customer Care"! You know that, but
are you providing it? Every day? For every customer? Most
of us aren't, and it costs us money - big time!

Every community has a handful of businesses that are famous
for their extreme customer care. Here in Eugene, one
example is Fiddler's Green golf shop. It's out in the
country, in a field, 10 miles from nowhere, and yet people
drive from Portland (120 miles!) to buy clubs, bags, and
equipment. Why? Their prices are good, and the Whalen
family has build a reputation for extraordinary service
and it's FUN to shop there!

Attracting new customers is hard, expensive and frustrating.
Doing business with raving fans who love doing business
with you is fun, profitable and easy! JoAnna is the EXPERT
on creating customer care that build relationships and
generates profits. I hope you'll join us this Tuesday,
the day after tomorrow! Register today!  Take ACTION!

   Transform Your Life!
   The Sedona Method

People ask me how to 'really explode my success and
change my life', and after telling them there is no magic
bullet, I refer them to The Sedona Method(tm). This series
of tapes and workbooks is, without doubt, the MOST
successful, thorough and powerful program for taking charge
of your life that I have ever seen. I wish I had written
it! You can get a FREE tape to sample the program, and for
goodness sake, sign up for their free newsletter! Their
simple observation that, 'Happiness is free' opened my eyes
and was the beginning of a remarkable journey. Very
powerful stuff!

The program is not simple or cheap - you expected a quick
pill? It is comprehensive, orderly, and effective. Both
Mary and I have used it, and it works! Highly recommended!

The One Minute Millionaire
An 'Almost FREE!' book, CD & Teleclass

This is one of the most impressive books and concepts I've
ever seen. The more I see the impact it's had on my
clients, the more enthused I become! Please, do yourself a
favor and buy the CD (for $11.95) and get the book and the
classes free! They don't even charge for shipping! This is
a magnificent deal and the two-books-in-one concept is
sheer genius. Do yourself a favor, buy this, and buy one
for a friend. Buy one for your son or daughter - I believe
EVERY high school student should be required to read this
book. It's that good! Please jump on this and get your copy

7. Humor:   Virus Alert (Not!)

((NOTE: A few weeks ago our server crashed and while we
saved almost all our files on a back-up, I did lose
hundreds of my best "funnies". If you have some great one-
liners, bloopers, puns or (clean) jokes, please send them
along. I LOVE this stuff and enjoy having fresh material.))

This week, my friend, Stephen Hendren (who is taking the
leap and changing careers this month!) sent me the
following. BE WARNED!

If you receive an email entitled "Badtimes," delete it
immediately. Do not open it. Apparently this one is pretty
nasty. It will not only erase everything on your hard
drive, but it will also delete anything on disks within 20
feet of your computer.

It demagnetizes the stripes on ALL of your credit cards.

It reprograms your ATM access code, screws up the tracking
on your VCR and uses subspace field harmonics to scratch
any CD's you attempt to play.

It will re-calibrate your refrigerator's settings so all
your ice cream melts and your milk curdles.

It will program your phone AutoDial to call only your
mother-in-law's number.

This virus will mix antifreeze into your fish tank.

It will drink all your beer.

It will leave dirty socks on the coffee table when you are
expecting company.

It will rewrite your backup files, changing all your active
verbs to passive tense and incorporating undetectable
misspellings which grossly change the interpretations of
key sentences.

If the "Badtimes" message is opened in a Windows environment,
it will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer
plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub.

It will not only remove the forbidden tags from your
mattresses and pillows, but it will also refill your skim
milk with whole milk.

It will replace all your luncheon meat with Spam.

It will molecularly rearrange your cologne or perfume,
causing it to smell like dill pickles.

It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying
to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

These are just a few signs of infection.

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
