1. The One-Minute TIP

Determine your "basics" and write them down. List your
values and your priorities. Keep it simple, and post your
list where you will see it every day. Keep it handy, like a
life-jacket, and the when "seas" of life start tossing you
around, you'll know where to go for safety and guidance to
get back on track.

2. Welcome Notes

Remember the old saying, "April showers bring May flowers"?
We are certainly getting our April showers! Last night it
poured and gave us a wonderful storm. We rarely get any
lightning around here, but at least we had the winds and
pelting rain that make it nice to cuddle in bed and
appreciate Mother Nature's power. Good sleeping weather!

I have two important announcements this week,
and I hope lots of you will jump on them:

#1 - For several months I have been publishing a newsletter
with the "best ideas" from the books I read. To my delight,
this has turned into quite an exciting thing! We've
reviewed biographies, self-help, and pulp fiction, so if
you want to (a) read more and better books, or (b) benefit
from summaries of great books, join us! Last week I
reviewed a biography of Katharine Hepburn that created
quite a stir, and I would like to see this thing grow. Sign
up by visiting:

#2 - We are coming to the wire for the World-Class Life(tm)
Conference in May. As of today (Thursday) there are only
three spaces left! I would LOVE to see YOU join us! If
you've been considering it, or if you haven't given it much
thought, NOW is the time! Please check out the website.
This is a powerful, life-changing event, and it's so much
fun that about half the participants from last year are
coming back! (How often do you find a Conference that is so
good, you attend it twice!?) You still have a month to make
travel arrangements, but the spots are going quickly, so
reserve your spot TODAY!

3:  The Principles of Greatness

This week I read another little book listing the
"principles of success", in this case they had twelve of
them and I thought they were excellent. But even more
importantly, it got me to thinking that there really ARE
only a small handful of key principles that make life work
out well.

You may have your own list - in fact, I think you SHOULD
have your own list!

I am convinced that high achievers always have a set of
"core beliefs" or "basic principles" or my favorite term,
"keys" that make things work out for them.

The vast majority of people never decide what they stand
for. They never choose their basic beliefs or the central
focus of their lives and so, not surprisingly, they are
doomed to "wander" through life, never quite reaching their
desired destination.

Remember the old saying that "no wind blows in favor of a
ship without a destination"? It's true, isn't it?

Author Cherie Carter-Scott has a series of books around the
theme of "the rules" and in one of them she boils "success"
down to "ten rules for a fulfilling life." In "The Richest
Man in Babylon", one of the most famous (and best) books on
financial independence ever written, George Clason boiled
financial achievement down to seven principles that are
high-lighted in a box near the front of the book.

In one of his early and most famous presentations, Jim Rohn
talked about "the four things" that make all the

We live in such a fast-paced world that it can be difficult
to slow down and stay focused, but success requires
discipline. Many people have observed that while success is
"not easy, it IS simple!"

High achievers know the value of honesty, integrity, and
persistence. High achievers have the courage to set goals
and make real commitments to completing them. (How often do
we "commit" to something, only to change our minds when it
becomes difficult or inconvenient? The winners in life make
commitments that last!)

Successful people know the value of time and stay "on
task." They stay focused, and they are patient and

And successful people work HARD! Yes, they are efficient
and use effective strategies, but they also get up early,
stay late, and work hard all day long. They know what they
want and they WORK to achieve it.

They avoid distractions. I am continually impressed by how
relatively simple, even Spartan, the lives of highly
successful people can be. They have a small number of
priorities, and NOTHING is allowed to distract or interrupt

Finally, I would add that unusually effective people have
an unusually high level of "Positive Self-Awareness." They
know who they are, and are comfortable with themselves.
They can stand alone, if necessary, because they like and
trust themselves. They are confident because they know
their values, their goals, and the principles they live by.

In the busy-ness of life, it is inevitable that we will be
"blown off-course". Things happen, we get confused or
stressed or distracted and, from time to time, we end up
working very hard on meaningless projects. From time to
time, we all "major in minor things" and when that happens,
it is absolutely critical that we have a clear set of
principles to guide us.

Determine your "basics" and write them down. List your
values and your priorities. Keep it simple, and post your
list where you will see it every day. Keep it handy, like a
life-jacket, and the when "seas" of life start tossing you
around, you'll know where to go for safety and guidance to
get back on track.

To learn more about the "Keys" to creating a GREAT
life join us for the World-Class Life(tm) Conference in
May. We've kept the cost low, and the quality, content
and focus of the Conference are incredibly rich! (Isn't
it time you gave yourself this treat? You deserve it!)

4. Quotes of the Week

"A moment of choice is a moment of truth. It's the testing
point of our character and competence."
                                -- Stephen Covey

"The secret of man's being is not only to live but to have
something to live for."
                                -- Dostoyevsky

"You have to say no to the old ways before you can begin to
find the new yes you need."
                                -- Betty Friedan

"Nature gives you the face you have at 20; it is up to you
to merit the face you have at 50."
                                -- Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel

5. Strictly Business:   Your Key Results

I had a particularly important conversation with a client
this week. He has built a wonderful business that is
approaching $2 million in annual sales, and he realized
that while he works hard every day, he is unclear about
what his MOST IMPORTANT results or outcomes need to be.

Should he focus on sales or leadership? Is he supposed to
be the visionary, or is his most important job to track the
numbers and keep everything under control?

Every task has one or two KEY outcomes and it is absolutely
vital that you know what they are.

In sales, your key outcome is almost certainly the dollar
volume of sales you make during each reporting period. But
to make that number, you have to know what the key factors

Over time, do you get more and better results from making
cold calls or from servicing past clients? Are you more
productive when you attend networking functions, or when
you spend time with your biggest customer? Does advertising
work, or are your sales built through long-lasting

The answer will vary by industry, by company, and according
to your own personal skills, personality and interests, but
it is absolutely essential that you KNOW what your key
results are, and the BEST way to achieve them.

Keep records, talk with colleagues, read, listen to audio
programs and take classes, and most important of all, take
time to analyze what works best for you!

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1    The World-Class Life(tm) Conference May 20-22nd
Create and LIVE the Life You Love!

There are only 3 spots left and this is my favorite project
of the year! The goal is very simple, and totally
outrageous: To give you the TIME, the TOOLS and the SUPPORT
to create the life you truly want for the rest of your
life. Can we do that in 2 days? We can sure try!

We meet in one of the most beautiful, peaceful settings on
earth. We spend our time on only one key question: How can
I live my life EXACTLY the way I want it to be? We talk
about what your ideal life will look like, about what you
would add or subtract or change. We give you tools and
techniques, and we encourage you to dream, but here is a
KEY difference: Dreaming is not enough! We give you clear,
efficient and effective STRATEGIES! No one wants to rock
the boat or tear their lives apart, we simply want to
improve our lives day by day, until they are perfect. I
hope you'll join us before the last spots are gone.

#2   Think Right Now!

The Think Right Now audio programs are superb! Their focus
on health and wellness, and on goal setting (perfect for
New Year's!) and practical skills like sales, are
incredible. They are very well done, and THEY WORK! My
clients love them (it was my clients who introduced me to
them) and using the programs DOES make a difference! I
highly recommend them and I hope you'll jump on this! I
have and personally use the goal setting, exercise and
healthy eating programs almost every day, and I'm can tell
you, they are fantastic! If you want to start 2004 on a
stronger footing, buy and use these programs!

#3     Add e-Commerce & Newsletters to Your Website!
(Passive income is a VERY GOOD thing!)

I'm a "raving fan" of this system that makes it EASY to
sell my tapes, register people for my classes, and create
my affiliate program, and you can use the system with no
cost for 30 days! Don Schnure has an amazing system for
helping me make money without having to be a techno-wizard.
I use the shopping cart, the affiliate program (took less
than an hour to set up!), and the broadcast modules. It is
so cool! If you have a website, you NEED this set of tools.
Let your website become a profit center for you!

        A No-cost Service for You!

A few months ago, I announced a newsletter just for folks
who appreciate books and understand the value of reading
the "best of the best." No one has time to read as much as
we like, and too often, we are drowning in "stuff" that
turns out to be a waste of time. So, I started a newsletter
with reviews and suggestions to help us find the "BEST
BOOKS". Leaders are readers! High achievers have always
read more than most people.

When he was head of Chrysler, Lee Iacocca said he read two
business books a week. Years ago one of my mentors, Bruce
Thieleman, taught me that a "pastor who doesn't read at
least a book a week is failing his congregation", and I
personally believe that applies to anyone in "the people
business" - coaches, HR managers, therapists and sales
people. I've made it a point to read at least an hour a day
for over 20 years and it makes all the difference!

Since we can't read "everything", let's read the best! I
hope you'll join us! Visit:

7. Humor:    The World's Thinnest Books

My friend and colleague, Kristie Tamsevicious, sent me this

NOT "politically correct" but they are pointed, sharp and
very funny. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. And, if
you want, please visit Kristie's site at:
