1. The One-Minute TIP

Where do you need to get expert help? Do you need to
redefine your goal, your audience or perhaps get a coach to
make the kind of progress you want? Success is almost never
a matter of "luck" and it rarely requires unusual skills or
genius. It does, however, require the usual skills, a great
plan, and the partnership of determined people. Two heads
ARE better than one!

2. Welcome Notes

This week's main article is a bit longer than usual, so
I'll keep this short. Also, the golf season is in full
"swing" (sorry! <grin>) and I have to get to the course for
my tee time - whoopee!

We are headed to Wisconsin for the World-Class Life(tm)
Conference and it promises to be the biggest and best ever.
We have a fantastic group coming and the printer has
promised to ship samples of my new book so I can give
everyone a copy in exchange for their helping me locate any
remaining "typos." This is a remarkable annual event, and I
can hardly wait!

And here's a thought: For our American subscribers, the
long Memorial Day weekend is coming up in two weeks. For
many people, it's the official start of summer, with
picnics and family outings. Why not make plans so this
year, in addition to the barbeque, you get some time for a
small personal retreat? Spend some time reviewing your
goals and values, re-connecting with loved ones, and
affirming your direction for the year.

Plan to use the long holiday for family fun (of course!)
and as a time to review your progress and affirm your
course for the year.

3:  From Frustration to Celebration

This week a former coaching client called me with an
extraordinary story of perseverance and success. Talking
with him certainly made my day and I want to share some of
the principles that have allowed him to achieve his goals,
make money, change careers and develop extreme personal
satisfaction during the past few months.

A couple years ago, I worked with a teacher who had an idea
for an internet-based business. We worked and worked, but
it never came together and when we stopped actively
coaching together after about a year, I felt I had "failed"
him in terms of measurable gains for his business. But
we've stayed in touch, and yesterday he gave me the
incredible gift of calling to thank me!

As Paul Harvey says, here's the "rest of the story." It's
about partnerships.

We had always been able to identify the problems:
** his identified customers weren't buying
** his lack of web skills made it hard to build and run
the site he needed
** because he wasn't making money, he was nervous about
investing, which kept him stuck in a loop of being under-funded

Last fall he made several decisions:

1. He decided to take the recommendation I had given him
and "learn to sell." He attended some workshops (expensive
but worth it), bought several books and tapes I had been
pushing on him, and got a professinal salesperson to mentor
him. He committed to mastering the skills to be an
excellent sales person.

2. He made a slight change in how he defined his target
audience, expanding his market to include more people who
could and - most importantly - DO buy from him.

3. At a sales conference he met a web designer and webhost,
and they formed an informal alliance. My client gets the
customers, the guy in Atlanta builds and markets the mini-

4. He started doing joint-ventures with "the best people I
could find, even though I was nervous because this was all
so new for me." The partnerships have been phenomenally

The end of the story? Since he made the commitment to these
things last fall, his business has exploded. He has given
notice he will not return to teaching next year, he has
raised his prices twice and will raise them again in June.
He has more customers than he can handle, and he refers
clients out for a commission on the referral. It's truly
passive, on-going income for him!

The key to this remarkable story is that he made two
essential decisions:

First, he stopped trying to do it himself. At first, he was
determined to learn the skills (after all, he's a teacher,
a professional learner!) and he was determined to do it all
himself. He got over that.

Second, he decided to take a risk and invest real money in
the project. He had been working on such a shoe-string
(trying not to lose too much!) that he was starving the
project and not giving it a fair chance. When he invested
in learning sales skills (travel, conferences, books and
tapes) and took the risk of bringing joint-venture partners
on-board, things changed.

As the saying goes, he's "working less and making much,
much more!"

The key was forming partnerships. He appreciated that he
needed to find experts to teach him. In other cases, he
needed to form alliances. And (this is important) he
redefined his audience from a small group that was not
buying, to a larger audience that has been extremely
responsive. The partners helped him do that and helped him
meet the needs of his new customers.

A great story!

So after all this time, why was he thanking me? (Fair
question - when I stopped coaching him, none of this had
happened yet.) His version is that my faith in him, and the
encouragement, advice and friendship I gave him was "right
on, I just wasn't ready to act on it at the time." He
thinks I get some of the credit for that, and I'm grateful.
In my own view, the credit is his, he earned it!

"The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams."

"Those who try to do something and fail are infinitely
better than those who try to do nothing and succeed."

"We don't know who we are until we see what we can do."

5. Strictly Business:   Build Your Business on Service

I want to sing the praises of two local businesses. You
probably have similar examples where you live, but here in
Eugene two local businesses dominate their markets not
because of what they sell, but because of what they give

One is a golf shop called "Fiddler's Green". The story is
that Mr. Whalen had a heart attack and was advised to quit
his job, so he found some land and opened a store. Now a
few years later, they are one of the largest golf equipment
and apparel shops in the world! People drive from all over
Oregon to shop, and tourists make a point to stop at

Here's my story: I bought a golf bag and used it for over
two years until the carry strap broke. I liked the bag and
wanted to buy one just like it. Instead, when I took it in,
Al cheerfully replaced it for free! Did he lose money on
that deal? Of course he did. Did he gain a life-time
customer? Yes, he did.

How about your local hardware store? Here in Eugene,
everyone shops at "Jerry's." A few years ago, they
actually drove one large national chain out of town, and
they still give Home Depot a run for every dollar. How?
Through service, support, information, and experts to
answer customer questions. Jerry's hires dozens of semi-
retired plumbers, carpenters, contractors and other experts
to answer customer questions. You can't beat that!

Lots of places sell tools and plumbing supplies, but nobody
competes with Jerry's for information, service and support.
Last Saturday I actually had to wait to get into the
parking lot!

What's the point? Simply this: We do business with people
we like, with people we trust, and with people who have
demonstrated a willingness to go the extra mile. That's the
value of providing great service!

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1 The Jim Rohn 2-Day Seminar!
This is Jim's first 2-day live event in three years!

After three years of anticipation - It's here! The Jim Rohn
Weekend Leadership Event (with special guests Denis
Waitley, Brian Tracy, Donna Krech and More)!

I had tickets to fly to Dallas for his last weekend
conference back in 2001, and at the last minute couldn't
go. I will DEFINITELY be in Anaheim for this one!

Jim Rohn is a gentleman, a scholar, a humorist and, in my
opinion, a genius. He's been one of my mentors for 20
years, and he's doing a rare weekend workshop in California
this summer. This is a rare opportunity to spend two days
focused on your dreams, your goals and your strategies for
creating the life you really, really want! They have
pricing from less than $400, up to a Platinum package with
all sorts of bonuses (including meeting with Jim!). The
dates are July 30-31. If you are serious about your goals,
I strongly urge you to attend! You can get more info and
register at Jim's website. Also, be sure to sign up for his
newsletter and look over his collection of books and tapes!

"Thank the Lord it is finally here. I attended in Dallas in
2001 and have eagerly awaited the return of the 2-day
event. I would fly anywhere in the world to be a part of
this event. I will register next week; the only question is
how many friends, family members, or staff I intend on
bringing. Thank You." -- Darren Patrick (I hope you'll
join Darren and me to hear Jim Rohn this July!)

  #2 Think Right Now!
Get The BEST Audio Programs I've Found!

Many of you have purchased his audio programs to increase
sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet,
health and fitness and you know how good these are! My
clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and
I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on
this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio
programs. They imagine themselves winning, setting new
records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it
by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of
Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and
as gifts. Grab these!

   #3 The One Minute Millionaire
An "Almost FREE!" book, CD & Teleclass

This is one of the most impressive books and concepts I've
ever seen. The more I see the impact it's had on my
clients, the more enthused I become! Please, do yourself a
favor and buy the CD (for $11.95) and get the book and
the classes free! They don't even charge for shipping! This
truly is a magnificent deal and the two-books-in-one
concept is sheer genius. Do yourself a favor, buy this, and
buy one for a friend. Every teenager should be REQUIRED to
read it in high school - It's that good!

   #4 Got a Website?
        Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days, to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:  Things I Learned From Noah's Ark

My friend, Bob Armstrong regularly sends me delightful bits
of humor and thought-provoking reminders, often with an
inspirational touch, and I appreciate that! Thanks, Bob,
and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark.

1. Don't miss the boat.

2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.

3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

4. Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you
to do something really big.

5. Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that
needs to be done.

6. Build your future on high ground.

7. For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

8. Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on
board with the cheetahs.

9. When you're stressed, float awhile.

10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by

11. The whole world can change in only 40 days.

12. No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's
always a rainbow waiting.

Have a fantastic day!

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
