1. The One-Minute TIP

This week, start wherever you are, with whatever you've
got, and DO something with it! If you can do something
brilliant that's wonderful, but get started! And if you
can't do something brilliant, then just "keep on keeping
on." One day at a time, do what you can and repeat it until
you reach the top of the mountain, until that wonderful day
when your friends wake up and are amazed at how "lucky" you are!

2. Welcome Notes

The spectacular news around here is that (1) I got to
"bach-it" for 10 days while Mary was visiting her family,
and (2) she came back! Life is sooooo good!

Cody and I pretty much behaved ourselves while she was
gone. We did eat a few too many snacks and stayed up past
bed-time, but on the plus side we also cleaned up the house
before Mary got home. I even did the dishes and bought
flowers, so we scored a TON of points! After 30 years, I
think I'm getting the hang of this!

As the poet said, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" and
it is so good to have my partner and best friend back in
the house!

On the business front, I have two very important items for
you and you can get more info about them in the Resources
section, below. Briefly:

1.  Please join us for the no-cost "How To Get Clients" tele-
seminar with David Steele this Thursday, August 26th. The
response has been amazing! We've added a second call, so
you can attend at either mid-day or in the evening - or
come to both! (Note: the timing is specifically to help all
of you in Europe and Australia who were concerned about the
call being in the middle of the night. Now you have no
excuse - please join us!) Get info and register at:

2.  My fall group coaching program is nearly full, with two
openings left. This is a GREAT program if you are ready to
take action and make stuff happen! We focus on setting
clear, achievable goals (projects) and using powerful,
effective strategies to "get there!" If a "fall campaign"
is right for you - if it's time for you to produce more and
better results, I hope you'll join us. Get more info at:

3:  Ideas verses ACTION!

This week I had one of those "blinding flashes of the
obvious" - times when something jumps up and I laugh at
myself for not having seen what's been in front of me all
along. Here's the distinction I finally "got":

"We don't need more good ideas; we need better execution of
the ideas we already have!"

I was talking with a member of my MasterMind group about
where we get our best ideas. We talked about marketing
experts, about websites and technology resources, about all
the books we've read. It was a wonderful discussion, but I
started getting restless because the list seemed endless.

Finally, I got that flash of the obvious! We already have
LOTS of pretty good ideas! They may not be the most
brilliant or best ideas in the world, but they aren't
totally stupid, either! Fundamentally, I pretty much know
what I "ought" to be doing. The problem is not with getting
more and better ideas. The problem is in the execution.

The problem, as always, is GETTING STUFF DONE!

Many people are familiar with the distinction that
perfection is often the enemy of excellence. In trying to
do something "perfectly" we procrastinate. We wait until we
have all the information and all the tools we might need,
and as a result the job never gets done at all! The
objective for most projects is not perfection, but

Here's another distinction that is similar, but as far as I
know, it's original with me: "Best practices" are often
the enemy of "good enough" practices!

In trying to find out how the experts do things, and
modeling ourselves after the most effective people in our
industry or profession, too often we end up never getting

Yes, of course, we want to be smart and efficient and use
the best techniques we can find. Of course we want to be
"ahead of the curve"; there's nothing wrong with that! (I
am certainly a fan of education and learning and coaching!)
But sometimes looking for the "BEST" simply becomes an
excuse to avoid getting started.

Most of the time, I know the next step. Most of the time, I
have an idea about how to proceed. Most of the time, I KNOW
what I need to do!

Only rarely do I truly need new ideas or expert advice
before I can take the next step. Only rarely must I read a
book or find the perfect website in order to get started.
Most of the time what I really need is to take what I
already know, add a bit of time and effort (usually called
"work"), and GET STARTED!

I believe it is Tony Robbins who says that EVERY action
gets some kind of result and that even inefficient action
will eventually get positive results. Of course, we want to
be as smart and productive as possible - no one argues
about that - but often the key to achievement is not a new
tool or better information or superior talent. Often the
key to achievement is simply using what we have and out-
working the competition.

This week, start wherever you are, with whatever you've
got, and DO something with it! If you can do something
brilliant that's wonderful, but get started! And if you
can't do something brilliant, then just "keep on keeping
on." One day at a time, step by step, do what you can and
repeat it until you reach the top of the mountain, until
that wonderful day when your friends wake up and are amazed
at how "lucky" you are!

4. Quotes of the Week

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the
whole staircase, just take the first step."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"The men who try to do something and fail are infinitely
better than those who try to do nothing and succeed."
                                    -- Lloyd Jones

"Continuous effort--not strength or intelligence--is the
key to unlocking our potential."
                                    -- Winston Churchill

"Inch by inch, anything's a cinch!"
                                    -- Unknown

5. Strictly Business:   Clone Yourself!

One of the key distinctions between creating your own job
and building a business is the ability to hire other people
to work for you and in some cases, do your work for you.

Most professionals run their "practice" as a business for
tax and accounting reasons, but in fact they have a job
they have created for themselves. They may enjoy being
their own boss, but they still have to show up and do their
work in order to get paid. That's one definition of a "job."

Increasingly, professionals are training others to do much
of what they used to do themselves. Attorneys use legal
assistants, and physicians are delegating more and more
work to both nurses and the relatively new profession of
"PA's" - Physician Assistants. The most successful sales
professional I know has a personal staff of four people who
work for HER, not for her employer. (Important
distinction!) In many cases, her staff can close sales even
if she is on vacation. Her commissions continue while she
is on the beach!

Successful business people learn to delegate. They hire
experts who can strengthen and diversify the office. They
understand that training and leading a team will always be
more profitable than doing it all yourself.

Learn to delegate and to train and supervise others. The
key to building your business is almost never "doing" more;
it's hiring and supporting great people.

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1     A Free Tele-Seminar:
HOW TO GET CLIENTS with David Steele
author of "How to Build Your Ideal Practice in 90 Days"
and the "How to Get Clients Toolkit"

I am delighted to invite you to a No-Cost, No-Obligation,
Complimentary seminar titled, "How To Get Clients" with my
friend and colleague, David Steele. It happens this
Thursday, August 26th, so you'll need to register today!

David is a master at GETTING CLIENTS and teaching others
to get similar results. Recently, David turned me on to two
absolutely CRITICAL distinctions about building a
professional practice:

1. Marketing is NOT the same as getting clients! (You'll
understand the distinction and how to use it to your
advantage after taking the class.)

2. Converting prospects into paying CLIENTS is easy,
natural, ethical and fun once you know how to do it!

The call is 60-minutes long and there is no cost or
obligation (other than a standard long-distance phone
call). This is not a marketing seminar! You will learn
specific strategies for getting clients that will maximize
the results from your marketing efforts and fill your
practice. You will learn:

*** Why private practice professionals struggle to get clients
*** How to create prospective clients for your practice
*** How to convert prospects to clients
*** Four closing questions that will get you hired
*** How to overcome objections (hint- when your
prospective client says "I can't afford it right now,"
      it is rarely about money!)
*** An amazingly effective strategy you can use to get a
client TODAY (or anytime you want a new client!)

If you get just one good idea, think what this hour could
be worth to your bottom line! If you are in business for
yourself, I hope you'll jump on this!

You can register at:

#2     Coaching Group Forms in September!
         Starts September 13th!

Three times a year I lead a "Coaching Group Intensive" (or
TEAM) for people who are ready to jump-start their careers
and take massive action to reach their goals and transform
their lives. These are exciting, incredibly productive
groups that demand hard work, but produce astonishing
results. Over three months (9 sessions) we clarify our
values, define specific (measurable) goals, and develop
powerful strategies to achieve them! Astonishing things
happen in these groups!

Here is the truth: Ordinary human beings (like you and me)
accomplish AMAZING things when we (1) know exactly what we
want, (2) have powerful reasons to get it done, and (3)
have a STRATEGY that we KNOW will lead to success. Look at
Lance Armstrong over-coming cancer! Look at a child
learning to walk or ride a bike! In the right
circumstances, we are UNSTOPPABLE!

The key is putting ourselves in the right circumstances!
Over the years, the CGI-TEAM has helped many people make
their dreams come true. It's affordable. It's available.
It's effective. Space is strictly limited to 12 people. I
hope you'll take action (quickly!) and join us. Get all the
info and call me for a pre-acceptance interview:

#3     The Road to Riches!
         Coaching for Financial Wealth
         September 7th to 28th

Is it time for you to take charge of your finances and
achieve your financial goals? Making money is easy! Keeping
it is hard. We handle lots of money every year, but
understanding it, managing it, investing and using it
wisely is hard! We are NOT taught about money in school,
and the things many of us learned from our family or by
"chance" are just plain WRONG!

If you are not satisfied with your financial progress,
please take this class! It's simple, it's elegant, and it

Money is not the "most important thing in life," but money
CAN open doors and make everything else either much EASIER,
or a lack of money can make things much, much HARDER. Most
of us blessed with reasonable incomes. We have the
potential to make more and to invest wisely, and yet most
of us have little to show for our hard work. It does NOT
have to be that way!

This is a class on managing and using money you already
earn to achieve your dreams. I NEVER recruit or recommend
ANY investment or business "opportunity" - we are all
different and I would never do that to you. This is
strictly about taking charge of your money and making it
your servant! You can do this - register and learn how!

#4   Make Money From Your Current Website!
       (It's getting MUCH easier!)

I'm a "raving fan" of this system that makes it EASY to
sell my tapes, register people for my classes, and create
my affiliate program, and I want to give you a free tour -
and you can use the system FREE for 30 days! The owner is
Don Schnure, and he has an amazing "system" for helping me
make money with my website and newsletter, without having
to be a techno-wizard. I use the shopping cart, the
affiliate program (took less than an hour to set up!), and
the broadcast modules. It's so cool! Click here for the tour.

7. Humor:    You Know It's 2004 When...

Fellow Oregonian, Paul Vogt frequently sends me chuckles or
points to ponder, and just as I was finishing TIPS this
afternoon, he sent me this. He got me - on several of the
items, including #19. (And for goodness sake, DON'T PEAK!
Save the laugh for later!)

You Know You're Living in 2004 When:

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family
is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You go home after a long day at the office and still answer the
phone with your name and title.
7. You make phone calls from home, you accidentally dial "9" to
    get an outside line.
8. You've sat at the same desk for four years and worked for
    three different companies.
10. You learn about your redundancy on the 11 o'clock news.
11. Your boss doesn't have a clue how to do your job.
12. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to
      see if anyone is home.
13. Every commercial on television has a website at the
      bottom of the screen.
14. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't
have for the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a
cause for panic and you turn around to go get it.
15. You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.
16. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. :)
17. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
18. Even worse, you know exactly who you are going to forward
      this message to.
19. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
20. You actually scrolled back up to see if there was a #9 on this list.

AND now you are hopefully laughing at yourself... :-)

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
