1. The One-Minute TIP
The winners in life know the value of simple, ordinary,
"easy" actions repeated every day "until." They know that
physical fitness comes from a few minutes of exercise every
day. They know that building a business is the result of
showing up and doing the work, every day. They know that
"Rome wasn't built in a day", but that "inch by inch,
anything's a cinch." They know that even baby steps,
repeated daily, will ultimately achieve any goal.
2. Welcome Notes
This week we celebrate our American "Thanksgiving" and
while I know we "ought" to be grateful every day, I'm glad
we set aside one day to really focus on it. The "Attitude
of Gratitude" truly is the "secret" to extraordinary
success. This week, give thanks for the wonderful people
and many blessings in your life!
Last week I wrote that I would be attending a conference in
Philadelphia with some of the best and brightest people I
know, and I'm back to confirm that conferences are one of
the BEST ways to explode your business, AND the most fun!
We laughed and worked, we ate together, and I'm proud to
say I stayed up later than I have in years. We talked in
the lobby, we argued about strategy, we shared our
"secrets" and we learned.
As a result of that meeting, I agreed to speak at the Maui
Coaching Conference in January and while I know that's only
a few weeks away, I strongly urge you to join us! My

3: The Daily Baby-Steps of Success
One of the most frustrating situations in life is to have a
specific goal, and yet find ourselves stuck. Whether we
want to lose weight, increase sales, or spend more time
with our kids, most of our goals in life are not that
difficult. And yet, we don't seem to "get there." What's
Two of the most common problems are "tolerations" and an
inability to persevere over time.
Tolerations are the "little things" that get in our way.
Perhaps we set a goal to read one book a month, but every
day "little things" distract us and keep us from our
reading. We have errands to run, phone calls to make, bills
to pay and we must choose between exercising and our desire
to read for 30 minutes.
Life is too busy and we tolerate it because, individually,
each of the items seem so small. We assume that's "just how
life is" so we don't stop to establish our boundaries,
eliminate the distractions, and keep our commitment to read
one book a month.
The winners in life ponder the "little things." They take a
moment to review each day. They notice what actually
happened, and they evaluate how they spent their time.
Frankly, I think the winners in life value their time more
than the rest of us. They know that each day represents an
irretrievable part of their life and if it was spent on
"small" things, then to some degree the day was wasted and
they will NOT "tolerate" that!
Over 150 years ago, Henry Thoreau advised that we
"simplify, simplify, simplify" and his advice still holds
today. We live in a world of too many invitations -
invitations to play soccer, attend concerts, watch
television, join a club or keep up with the neighbors. Most
of the time, the invitations are genuinely fun and perhaps
even fulfilling. But cumulatively, they are a disaster!
Those "little" invitations rob us of our lives!
Much of the frustration and confusion in life comes from
not saying "No" to invitations and opportunities that are
of secondary importance. Winners know that in many cases
all that is necessary to achieve their biggest goals is the
discipline to say NO to life's small daily "tolerations."
Which leads to the second major skill of high achievers -
the ability to take "baby steps" on a daily basis.
For every "instant millionaire" there are literally
thousands of people who got rich the old fashioned way -
saving and investing month by month, year by year until
they "got there."
Winners know the value of simple, ordinary actions repeated
every day "until." They know that physical fitness comes

most of them were built by teams of contractors, with one
beautiful exception. Mr Cycinck and his wife are emigrants
from the former Soviet Union and they built their home by
hand, one brick at a time. Instead of hiring contractors to
put it up quickly, the two of them literally built it
themselves, and when they moved in they had almost a
million dollars in sweat equity. Yes, it took a bit longer,
but they have no mortgage! That's the power of daily
discipline to achieve any goal!

5. Strictly Business: Your 2004
With the U.S. economy showing signs of a nice recovery, did
you know that you can implement your OWN stimulus package
and to do it with the Government's help? Wouldn't it be
nice to know that 2005 will be a MUCH more profitable year?
You can take action right NOW to assure your increased
profits in 2005 and all you need is some planning and
action on your part.
I usually point out two or three times each fall that any
business-related investments between now and December 31st
will reduce your taxable income, and thus reduce your taxes
next April. The net effect is that Uncle Sam pays for 40-
50% of whatever you buy! Imagine going on a shopping spree
and each time you buy an item, your Uncle slashes the price
But that's only the beginning!
Smart investments in your business will almost surely make
you money going forward. Think about that!
Would new software enhance your productivity? Would a new
website increase sales? Would new training or a new vehicle
or a new desk make you more productive? Investing in these
things will do far more to increase your bottom line than
any "stimulus package" Congress is ever likely to pass.
And the beauty is that you can customize it to precisely
fit your needs and desires. I'm typing this on a new
computer, using a new low-emission monitor, while sitting
in a new lumbar-support chair that has definitely increased
both the amount of time I work, and my producitivity. Great

7. Humor: What (Some) Men Really Think
I rarely use "gender" humor and have observed that whenever
I do, I get some grumpy mail about it, but these struck me
(yes, as a male) as incredibly funny. Don't know why, but
they did. So against the advice of my wife and my better
judgment, I'm passing them along and I hope they give you
a chuckle. And, in any case, thanks to Bob Armstrong for
making my day!
Some of the things that (at least a few) men really think:
We always hear "the rules" from the female side. Now here
are the rules from the male side. These are our rules!
Please note...these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!
1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If
it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You
don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
1. Sunday sports. It's like a full moon or the changing of
the tides. Let it be.
1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we're never going to
think of it that way.
1. Crying is blackmail.
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious
hints do not work! Just say it. please!
1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost
1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving
it. That is what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an
argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after
1. If you won't dress like the Victoria's Secret girls,
don't expect us to act like soap opera guys.
1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one
of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.

want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do
it, just do it yourself.

1. Men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default
settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color.
Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.
1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will
act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is
just not worth the hassle.
1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to,
expect an answer you don't want to hear.
1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you
wear is fine... Really!
1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are
prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun
formation, or monster trucks.
1. I am in shape. Round is a shape, isn't it?
1. Thank you for reading this. Yes, I know, I have to sleep
on the couch tonight; but did you know men really don't
mind that? It's kinda like camping out.
