1. The One-Minute TIP

Lots of people can achieve some level of fame or wealth, or
even political power, without Positive Personal Integrity,
but it won't last. It's not truly satisfying or fulfilling
because at some level, they know they are being false. True
success is built on a foundation of Self-Awareness and
stands on the pillars of Personal Passion and Positive
Personal Integrity. Don't leave home without it!

2. Welcome Notes

One of the opportunities we have every December is to
review the year just past and design precisely the life we
want in the year ahead. I find it interesting that this is
also the busiest time of the year! Even with all the
parties, I urge you to review the year just past and choose
your priorities for the year ahead.

For the past couple of weeks, Mary and I have reviewed our
budgets, looked at pictures and talked about the trips we
took in 2004. We've talked about the books we read, the
things we did (and did not do), and we're planning the year

What would you like to achieve in 2005? Who will you
become? What will you learn? Who will you meet, talk with
and work with? What trips will you take? How much will you
earn, and how will you spend it?

Not everyone chooses an elaborate a planning process.
Sometimes our friends tease us, and I admit we may be too
obsessed. (So what?) But here's a challenge: Whatever
system or planning is right for you, do it! You really CAN
design the life you want, but you MUST take charge! If you
don't plan and choose, your life will unfold by chance, and
who wants that?

If you would like to begin 2005 with a TEAM coaching
process to help you clarify your goals, develop strategies
and use your time (and energy) more effectively, I hope
you'll contact me. Get all the info and take action at:

3:  The Second Pillar of Success: Positive Personal Integrity

This week I saw Leonardo DiCaprio on the Oprah Winfrey
show. He was plugging his new movie, but he also told a
story about his grandmother, describing her as "old
school," a woman who told it as she saw it.

He described a private tour of the Pablo Picasso museum,
personally guided by Picasso's grandson. As they looked at
the paintings, it was obvious his grandmother didn't
approve of Picasso's style and when the grandson asked what
she thought, she told him! Everyone in the audience laughed
at the story, but then Leonardo added the real punch-line:
Later he received a letter from Picasso's grandson saying
how much he loved the old woman's honesty and integrity!

Everyone wants to be told the truth. We recognize
integrity, and we also sense the lack of it.

Here's another great story, variously credited to both
Winston Churchill and George Bernard Shaw. It seems one of
them was seated next to a wealthy, aristocratic woman at a
formal dinner. During the dinner, a slightly inebriated
Churchill (or Shaw) turned to the woman and asked if she'd
sleep with him for a million pounds. After recovering from
her outrage, it's said the woman pondered the question and
reluctantly agreed that for a million pounds she would do it.

Churchill then asked if she'd sleep with him for five
pounds, to which she angrily replied, "Certainly not! What
kind of woman do you think I am?!" Churchill's answer is
classic: "That, my dear woman, has already been
established. Now we are haggling over the price."

Personal integrity is priceless and essential to greatness.

This is the third in a series on the Pillars of
Achievement. Over the past 30 years, I've had the privilege
of working with hundreds of high achievers and I've looked
for the common factors, the "keys" that made they so
successful. Obviously, there are a variety of skills (and
we'll look at them in January), but underneath it all, I
found a common foundation of "Unusual Self-Awareness" and
four "Pillars" that support their achievements. (You can
see the earlier articles in my archive at: )

Last week we looked at the Pillar of Positive Personal
Passion. It's the reservoir of energy and drive that high
achievers use to reach their goals. They have a personal
belief and passion to achieve their purposes!

The second pillar is an absolute, relentless sense of
Positive Personal Integrity. Unusual Self-Awareness tells
them exactly who they are, and their sense of Positive
Personal Integrity keeps them focused straight ahead. With
high achievers, what you see is exactly what you get. They
are who they seem to be, they know their values, and they
stick to them.

I think of John F. Kennedy's remarkable book, "Profiles in
Courage," and the impact those models had on his own life.
Kennedy can be faulted for many things, but as Robert
Dallek's new biography makes clear, Kennedy new who he was
and through his pain and limitations, he stuck to his priorities.

The great golfer, Bobby Jones, was once complimented for
calling a penalty stroke on himself when no one else was
around to see. He was disgusted by the compliment and
replied, "You might as well compliment a man for not
robbing a bank!"

Lots of people can achieve some level of fame or wealth, or
even political power, without Positive Personal Integrity,
but it won't last. It's not truly satisfying or fulfilling
because at some level, they know they are being false.

True success is built on a foundation of Self-Awareness and
stands on the pillars of Personal Passion and Positive
Personal Integrity. Don't leave home without it!

4. Quotes of the Week

"Don't be afraid your life will end; be afraid that it will never begin."
                                                 -- Grace Hansen

"We don't know who we are until we see what we can do."
                                                 -- Martha Grimes

"The starting point of all achievement is desire. Weak
desire brings weak results."
                                                 -- Napoleon Hill

"When you follow your bliss doors will open where you would
not have thought there would be doors; and where there
wouldn't be a door for anyone else."
                                                 -- Joseph Campbell

5. Strictly Business:   Have You Backed Up Today?

About once a year I write a reminder that every business
person MUST have systems to "back-up" their most important
files, procedures and operations. This week I had a
personal example of that.

Last Saturday I was surfing the internet when there was an
ominous "click" in my computer and my monitor suddenly went
black. There had been no warning, nothing to indicate a
problem. It was just black and when I tried to re-start my
computer, nothing happened. Uh-oh!

My hard drive was completely gone, and with it all my
files, programs and records for the past several years. A

Fortunately, this has happened before and we have back-ups
in several areas:

1. I had back-ups of all my personal work. All my
articles, books, back issues of TIPS and our financial
records were backed up on another hard drive (in a separate
location) and on a portable drive. The good news was that
my data would live again!

2. I also had this laptop, with copies of our most
important software. While checking email and running the
business were less convenient, we could still function.

3. We have an on-going relationship with a tech expert and
I was able to call Ken (yes, on Saturday!) and have him
start making repairs.

While it cost some money and made me anxious, we are back
with only minor disruptions. Lessons learned?

*** Have systems that automatically backs-up ALL your key
files! Don't count on remembering to do it. Get software
that does it automatically.

*** Maintain your software so when (not "if" but "when")
you have to re-install it, everything is in one place and
you can find it.

*** Find a tech person you trust and get to know them NOW.
Don't wait for a rainy day to start looking for a roofer,
and don't wait until your computer crashes to find someone
to fix it.

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1    Announcing "1st TEAM Coaching!"
Group Coaching to Take YOU to the Next Level

Group coaching is one of the BEST ways to get organized,
focus on your goals and ACHIEVE the results you need! For
the past several years, I've led coaching groups because as
a team, you have folks to support you. As a team, there is
a structure and plan for getting things done. And, as a
team, the cost is low while the opportunity to get exactly
the support you need is always there. And, they are FUN!

The name of the group says it all: T-ogether E-veryone A-
chieves M-iracles!(tm) These groups are structured so we
never waste time. They are focused on helping you create
the results you want, but they are also warm, personal, and
informal enough to respond to individual concerns.

I can't think of a better way to start the year! Set your
goals, then make the commitment to "get there." Match your
daily actions to achieving your highest priorities! To
reserve your place in the January TEAM, visit:

#2     101 Best Ways to Get Ahead
         An "encyclopedia" of Success!

As I've been telling you recently, Michael Angier has
compiled the most useful and most powerful "encyclopedia"
for achievement I've ever seen. He calls it "101 Best Ways
to Get Ahead" and I absolutely want you to jump on this,
buy it, print it out and keep it on your desk from now on!

To get it now, click here:

Creating a GREAT life is ALWAYS an on-going journey. That
is why you need this book! In life we need to achieve a
wide variety of things. Some are financial, some focus on
our relationships. Some are connected to health and
fitness, others to parenting or preparing for retirement,
but ALL of these things have one thing in common:

Other people have figured out how to do them well. Someone,
somewhere has figured out the "recipe" to achieve the
things you want in life, and Michael has compiled the
quotes, recommendations, the "recipes" to get stuff done! I
hope you'll jump on this!

#3     Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for CHANGE I've Found!

Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase
sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet,
health and fitness and you know how good they are! My
clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and
I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on
this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio
programs. They imagine themselves winning, getting new
records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it
by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of
Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and
as gifts. Grab these!

#4     Got a Website?
         Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:    Warning - Major Groaners Ahead!

While re-building my computer this week (see Strictly
Business, above) I found this collection of bad, bad puns
and in the midst of our stress and chaos, they were good
enough (bad enough) to make me laugh out loud. I wish I had
included a note about who sent them to me, but alas I
didn't. Whoever it was, thank you! On a bad day, these came
were great pick-me-ups!

How do crazy people go through the forest?
They take the psycho path.

What did the fish say when it hit a concrete wall?

What do Eskimos get from sitting on the ice too long?

What do prisoners use to call each other?
Cell phones.

What do you call a boomerang that doesn't work?
A stick.

What do you call cheese that isn't yours?
Nacho Cheese.

What do you call Santa's helpers?
Subordinate Clauses.

What do you call four bullfighters in quicksand?
Quatro sinko.

What has four legs, is big, green, fuzzy, and would kill
you if it fell out of a tree?
A pool table.

What lies at the bottom of the ocean and twitches?
A nervous wreck.

Why do bagpipers walk when they play?
They're trying to get away from the noise.

Why do gorillas have big nostrils?
Because they have big fingers

What kind of coffee was served on the Titanic?

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
