1. The One-Minute TIP

Thomas Edison started with ideas. Bill Gates started with
an idea. Oprah Winfrey started poor and alone, but she had
some good ideas. And all of them took action. Share your
dream with a "MasterMind" group of friends. Ask great
questions. Find the answers and take action. Everything in
life starts as an idea, a glimmer or a dream. The difference
is that successful people follow a strategy and persist
until their ideas become reality.

2. Welcome Notes

As Cody and I took our walk this morning, the sky was
unusually clear. There was a glow in the east, with a small
crescent moon above and the constellation Orion was clear
in the early morning sky. What a glorious morning, and it
was absolutely free! Mother Nature's promise that today
would be a wonderful adventure.

As usual, we passed Gerhard, a man in his 80's who walks
with a cane. As a boy he fled Nazi Germany to Switzerland,
and then came to the U.S. in his 20's. Now, he has
arthritis and moves slowly, but he's out every morning,
ignoring the pain in his knees. He usually has a treat for
Cody, who looks for him each time we walk. As long as he's
there to help me wake the sun, I'll meet him each morning.
What a way to start the day!

Whatever your pattern or habit, start each morning with a
routine that inspires you. Start with thanksgiving and a
bit of fun. It pays rich dividends!

Finally, an invitation to everyone who loves books and good
reading. I'm an avid reader and I routinely review about
four books a month. If you'd like to know what I read (and
recommend), sign up for BEST BOOKS. There's no cost, there's
seldom any advertising or promotion, it's fun, and sometimes
you get GREAT DEALS (bonuses, special offers) from authors
or publishers. Join us at:

3:  How to Go From Nothing to Everything

This week I received a series of emails from an artist who
complained about my advice in TIPS. She wrote that since
she has no money, my recommendation to attend seminars was
unreasonable because "it takes money to make money." She felt
that artists are often unappreciated and under-paid. She
complained that she had no contacts and no resources, so my
"advice is a sham." And she's not alone.

Of course, it's easier to turn an idea into reality if you
already have plenty of tools and resources! In that sense,
her opinions are quite reasonable and I understand them.

Fortunately, however, her opinions are also somewhat
misguided. The truth is that we all come into the world alone.
At birth, we have no language, no money, no skills and no
resources, but we need not stay that way.

Here are the steps that, as far as I know, every successful
person has used to achieve their goals:

1. First, every innovation and great fortune begins as a
simple thought. Often it begins as just a whiff of thought,
a glimmer or an intuition, a simple, "I wonder what would
happen if...."

2. Second, the vast majority of people dismiss these
thoughts or ideas. They get distracted and nothing ever
develops. BUT -- some people latch on to the idea. They
"incubate" and ponder it. They ask good questions about how
to proceed, who else might be interested, where they could
get more information.

3. Third, successful people take action. It might be a
tiny action, but they read a book, make a call, jot some
notes, explore the internet. They do something to record
and expand their idea.

4. Fourth, they find good people to help them. Too many
people keep their ideas to themselves and their dream dies
like a seed without water. Successful people form a team or
MasterMind group to ask more and better questions, and
together they find answers.

5. Fifth, they develop a strategy. At first, it doesn't
have to be a brilliant or even an effective strategy,
but they find a way to move forward, building on
what works and learning from their failures.

6. Sixth, they persist and leverage everything "until."
They never give up and they never quit.

No one who reads this is powerless or without resources.
You can read. You have friends. There are biographies and
you have the internet. There are coaches and models all
around you. There are investors looking for the "next big
thing." You may have to start small, and like an airplane
going down the run way, there may be a long period of slow-
going while you get started, but ultimately, airplanes do
take off and soar!

4. Quotes of the Week

"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of
choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing
to be achieved."
                                      -- William Jennings Bryan

"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is
the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing."
                                      -- Theodore Roosevelt

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the
whole staircase, just take the first step."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"The distance is nothing; it is only the first step that is difficult."
                                      -- Mme. Du Deffand

5. Strictly Business:   The Power of The MasterMind

Last week's business note, "The Myth of The Lone Ranger"
got quite a response! Many professionals and entrepreneurs
wrote about their sense of being alone and having "to do it
all." What a tragedy!

Successful business leaders know they are NOT alone. They
work with teams, they delegate, and they coordinate with
eager, enthusiastic people. The reality is that even
"solopreneurs" working from home depend on the talents of
many people, from web designers and engineers, to sales
people and word of mouth from enthusiastic customers.

Too often, we labor under the illusion that we are
separated from our neighbors. The good news, however, is
that we "are all in this together." The truth is that most
people are good and generous and willing to help.

One of the most powerful things any business person can do
is to participate in a MasterMind group. This is a group of
intelligent, caring people who agree to meet regularly for
the sole purpose of supporting each other.

Sometimes, the members share a common set of skills or
dreams, but often the members are diverse and share only
the desire to succeed. My current MasterMind is composed of
people from four different states. We meet weekly on a
conference call, getting together a couple times a year for
intensive weekends.

Search your memory and database for the names of 4-5
ambitious, talented people and call them. Suggest meeting
regularly to share goals, to hold each other accountable,
to solve problems and support each other. Not everyone will
agree to participate, but the best and brightest will jump
on this! The power of a MasterMind group is enormous!

to clarify your own dreams, set goals and stay focused,

#1     Alive, Awake and Aware!
My new book and Audio Program

This is the book and audio program I've wanted to create
for the past several years. Every one can recall a time
when a new piece of information or advice has created
instant change in our lives. But what about all the things
that never seem to change, no matter how hard we try?

After 25 years of studying highly successful people, I
wrote this book because effective, instant change comes in
three steps. The inner circle is self-awareness or self-
knowledge. When we are clear about who we are and what we
REALLY want, change is easier. The second circle is
effective support from our intimate community, the people
we spend time with every day. Finally, change must make
sense "out there" in the real world where we work and play.

After 25 years, I've written what I believe is the "recipe"
for a great life. I've tried to take the key ideas, the
most fruitful "seeds" from thousands of books and
interviews with hundreds of successful people and put them
in one place so YOU can learn, benefit and APPLY the
information immediately.

And, it's available in both book form and in a series of
audio CD's. Get it at:

#2    Bodacious Woman!
An Incredible Book For All Women (And Men)
Special 25% Discount for TIPS Subscribers

This is a wonderful, fun, inspiring little book that is a
"must read" for both women and men. I thought so highly of
it that I bought and mailed copies to four of my clients as
soon as I could get my hands on them, then I mailed copies
to all eight of my nieces. You've got to read this!

But, why? The answer is simple: You can't get along in this
world by being "nice" (read: "timid"), or by refusing to go
for what you want in life. Foley's honesty is vibrant and
refreshing. Her examples ring so true and so familiar that
you can't help seeing yourself (and women you love) on
every page. There is power in this little book!

Success is always an "inside job." It starts with telling
our truth, being clear about who we are and what we want in
life. To the women who read this review, I say, "Just buy
it!" To the men who read this, I say, "Just buy it, read it
(under the covers with a flashlight if you have to), then
give it to the woman in your life." It's that good.

You can get it at, but here's a MUCH BETTER
deal: I contacted Mary's publicist, Barbara Keddy, and got
a heck of a deal for you. Use this link and you'll get 25%
off the price of the book, you'll get Mary's newsletter
(cancel any time if you don't like it) and you'll get an
invitation to her "Bodacious Women's Club" (at a $5 trial
price - can't beat that with a stick!). Check it out, buy
the book, and enjoy:

#3    Achieve Your Goals, Transform Your Life!
        The "Sedona Method"

People ask me how they can "really explode my success and
change my life", and after telling them there is no magic
bullet, I refer them to The Sedona Method(tm). This series
of tapes and workbooks is, without doubt, the MOST
successful, thorough and powerful program for taking charge
of your life that I have ever seen. I wish I had written
it! You can get a FREE initial tape to sample the program,
and for goodness sake, sign up for their free newsletter!
Their simple observation that, 'Happiness is free' opened
my eyes and was the beginning of a remarkable journey.
Very powerful stuff!

The program is not simple or cheap - you expected a quick
pill? It is comprehensive, orderly, and effective. Both
Mary and I have used it, and it works! Highly recommended!

#4    Got a Website?
        Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts,
autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me
serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None
of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they
were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I
discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put
together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and
they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs
and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you
can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:    Redneck Medical Terms

My friend, Bill Barrows, forwarded these and originally
they were identified with a particular cultural tradition

credit. Enjoy!
