1. The One-Minute TIP

With a well-designed outcome, profound desire, and daily discipline, you can achieve whatever you want. The process is simple. The individual steps are easy, and the results are predictable. But most people never do them. Fortunately, that is not you!

2. Welcome Notes

I’ve written about the gorgeous fall colors for several weeks now, and they just keep getting better and better! This morning I was playing golf and the oaks, maples and poplar trees were absolutely magnificent! I’ve had the privilege of knowing several talented artists and with all due respect to their incredible skills, nobody’s use of color compares with Mother Natures. I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy the smells and colors of autumn!

Also, I want to remind you about another no-charge letter I produce. I’m a voracious reader and I always write a brief review of the books I read. About once a month (on average) I send the reviews to everyone who’s signed up for my “Best Books” newsletter. This week, I sent reviews of a personal development book by Brian Tracy, a new biography of President Eisenhower, and reviews of a couple great novels. If you would like a copy, I’d love to send it to you. Sign up at:

3: Success in 3-D

Last summer, I was hired to work with a group of 27 sales people and I was charged with helping them develop and master a “system for achievement.” The VP who hired me made it clear he did not want “another motivational speaker” or a goal-setting workshop. “My people have had that, and generally, they don’t think those systems work. I’m hiring you to bring them something that actually works and that they will actually use every day.”

The system had to be easy to understand, powerful enough to get results, and flexible enough to help them achieve any goal from sales to relationships to spirituality. How would you like that for a contract?

Here’s what I taught them:

1. DESIGN the outcome. The first step to achieving anything is to design it in every detail. I love Stephen Covey’s famous recommendation to “start with the end in mind.” I also love Michael Angier’s phrase that “clarity is power.” In most areas of life, vagueness is the killer.

When we say we want “more happiness” or “less stress” we aren’t saying anything meaningful. Our brains are confused by a vague wish that things would be “better” or “different” and unless we take the time to define EXACTLY what we want, we mostly spin our wheels and waste time.

On the other hand, if you specify exactly what you want, our incredible minds can usually achieve it. Most people are afraid to be specific, afraid to design the future they really want. If you want a new car, for example, dare to design it in every detail. Do not set a goal for “a new car this year!” Instead specify the make, model, color, special amenities and the date you want it in your driveway.

When you take time to DESIGN the future you want—when you design the marriage, the income, the home or career—you really, really want, your brain will create it for you.

2. DESIRE is key. The size of your results will exactly reflect the depth of your desire. If you “hope” or “wish” or “wonder” about something, it may (but probably won’t) happen. If you MUST have it, if think about it and talk about it and read about it all day long, your desire will inevitably bring it about.

Many people have had the experience of making a “dream board” with pictures of their ideal home, then contacting realtors to visit homes like the one they want and found a way to get it, or something even better, in a very short time. Motivation is never a problem when we pursue things we truly want with all our hearts.

But note that the outcomes you have DESIGNED and the DESIRES of your heart must agree! No matter how perfectly you design the expedition and study the route, you will never climb Mt Everest if your heart’s desire is actually for security or safety or to be “ordinary.”

Design the outcome or result you want, and be sure you desire it with your whole being.

3. DISCIPLINE is essential. Climbing Mt Everest is not difficult! It is (I imagine) a simple matter of putting one foot in front of the other and repeating the process all the way to the top. The hard part is the daily discipline of preparing your body and learning the ropes. (Sorry about the pun!)

With modern equipment and a good guide, the hardest part of climbing Mt Everest is not the cold or the altitude or the danger of frostbite. The much harder part is going to the gym every day. The harder part is the discipline to climb a hundred smaller mountains for practice. The harder part is putting the money in a special savings account, every month. The hard parts are the “small daily disciplines” of preparing to climb Mt Everest! Fortunately, however, these are also the easiest things to do.

The same is true of learning a new language, changing careers, or sailing the world. The hard part is not the thing itself (if others have done it, you can, too!) but the daily disciplines of preparing yourself for the adventure.

With a well-designed outcome, profound desire, and daily discipline, you can achieve whatever you want. The process is simple. The individual steps are easy, and the results are predictable. But most people never do them. Fortunately, that is not you!

4. Quotes of the Week

“You can have anything you desire, but not everything you might wish for. Be specific!”
                                     -- Philip E. Humbert

"Man is so made that when anything fires his soul, impossibilities vanish."
                                     -- Jean De La Fontaine

"The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams."
                                     -- Eleanor Roosevelt

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
                                     -- Mark Twain

5. Strictly Business:  Marketing vs. Sales Success

Many people have pointed out the distinction between marketing (making people aware of you and your business) and sales (closing the deal). It's always critical to know which is which, and to use skills appropriate for the situation.

Recently, I've seen business people using far too many marketing strategies and impatiently wondering why they weren't creating instant results. I recently consulted with one local business that has tried 9 different marketing strategies in the past year, "but none of them worked." No wonder they and their potential customers are confused!

My coaching was that all of the strategies seemed viable, and any of them might work well IF they picked one and used it consistently over time. The owner's problem is that (1) he doesn't want to choose because he fears he'll choose the wrong one, and (2) he's eager for his marketing to produce rapid sales, which is a mistake.

Marketing is primarily intended to create brand recognition and give you the opportunity to make sales in the future. Sales is the art of helping a qualified prospect (who is already interested) to buy right now. They are different processes and they require different skills.

Be clear about your marketing strategy. Pick one or two strategies that come naturally for you, and that you enjoy. Use it over time – months, years, even decades! – to give yourself the opportunity to make sales down the road.

Then, know and use appropriate SALES techniques when the time comes. When a qualified prospect inquires about your goods or services, know how to close the deal, but don't expect that every MARKETING conversation will lead to immediate sales. Knowing the difference is a key to long-term financial success.

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1 Use a MasterMind Alliance to Achieve Your Goals
Get the Support, Advice & Encouragement You Need
We All Need a Little Help from Our Friends

Every winning athlete, and successful business person has a team of experts behind them. How would you like a team of hand-picked advisors committed to your personal success? What could you do with expert advice, wise counsel, and a network of successful people at your finger-tips?

Back in 1935, Napoleon Hill wrote that a “MasterMind” group was the one essential behind every successful person he interviewed! And yet very few people create a Mastermind team to help them achieve their most important goals in life! Now you can! Most people “don’t know how” or they fear they “wouldn’t know who to ask.” Now, I’ve written the manual! I’ve create a “recipe” so you can create your own MasterMind whenever you wish! I’ve included suggestions for where, when and how often to meet. I’ve even included simple scripts to get you started. Check it out!

If success is important to you, you MUST have a MasterMind group to help you “get there.” Click for more info.

     #2 Think Right Now!
The Best Tools for CHANGE I've Found!

Many of you have purchased these audio programs to increase sales, lose weight, set and achieve goals or improve diet, health and fitness and you know how good they are! My clients turned me on to these CD's several months ago and I'm incredibly impressed. I strongly urge you to jump on this! Top achievers in every field listen to audio programs. They imagine themselves winning, getting new records and living the life they truly WANT, and they do it by visualizing their victories in advance with the help of Mike's programs. These are fantastic, both for yourself and as gifts. Grab these!

     #3 Got a Website?
     Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts, autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:  Humor for Lexophiles

I’m always amazed at how small our world has become! Anne van Vliet from Johannesburg, South Africa, sent me our humor this week. I love that I can sit here on my deck in Oregon writing things that are important to me, hit “send” and share them with folks all over our small planet! Thanks, Anne, for sending these (they made me smile) and for reminding me how much we really are “all in this together.” Enjoy!
I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.
Police were called to a day care where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.
Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now.
The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference.
The butcher backed up into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his work.
To write with a broken pencil is pointless.
When fish are in schools they sometimes take debate.
The short fortune teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large.
A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.
A thief fell and broke his leg in wet cement. He became a hardened criminal.
Thieves who steal corn from a garden could be charged with stalking.
We'll never run out of math teachers because they always multiply.
When the smog lifts in Los Angeles, U.C.L.A.
The math professor went crazy with the blackboard. He did a number on it.
The professor discovered that her theory of earthquakes was on shaky ground.
The dead batteries were given out free of charge.
If you take a laptop computer for a run you could jog your memory.
A dentist and a manicurist fought tooth and nail.
A bicycle can't stand alone; it is two tired.
A will is a dead giveaway.
Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.
A backward poet writes inverse.

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
