1. The One-Minute TIP

Never confuse your business goals with living a great life! One is your job, the other is your life! Yes, we all want to make more money and be more successful in 2008, but keep things in perspective and put first things first! Enjoy yourself. Have fun. Love well. Laugh often. Then set goals, get a strategy, and make more money! I think you’ll like the results.

2. Welcome Notes

"Twas the week before Christmas!" While many people don’t celebrate Christmas, we do and without intending insult or discomfort to anyone, we wish each of you peace and joy. Whether you celebrate one of the other holidays or none of them, may this season bring satisfaction and renewal, and may the new year bring peace, prosperity, health and happiness to you and your loved ones.

Below, I write about priorities and having fun and I can’t resist telling a story of mischief and rebellion. This week, a friend of mine, Mike, held a party. He invited about 30 guys for music, drinks and cigars. He hired a couple cute young females for decoration and he somehow arranged for the sales rep from Perdomo cigars to give away free samples. We were BAAAAD!

But before you get the wrong impression, it was a cultured affair. There was singing—granted, neither the words or harmony were suitable for tender ears, but that’s a small thing! There was poetry by Rudyard Kipling, and a thorough evaluation of the virtues of single-malt Scotch. And there was laughter. Yes, it’s true Mary made me shower before letting me back in the house, but it was worth it! Sometimes, boys will be boys, no matter how bad our clothes stink afterward. Just be safe, stay sober, and laugh a lot!

Success is about a rich and rewarding life. So as Bob Hope used to sing, “Thanks for the memories!” As you plan your holidays and develop your strategies for 2008, remember to have fun.

3: Have fun.  Love well.  Laugh often.

Here in the U.S., our 2008 election cycle has been in full swing for months already. Our politicians are clearly focused on making sure 2008 turns out exactly the way they hope! But I wonder about the rest of us. I see people focused on the holidays and daily activities, and I wonder if we are as determined to make 2008 the year we want it to be as our politicians are.

All of us are busy. We work hard, do our daily chores and try to keep faith with our intentions to exercise more, spend time with the kids, do a little reading or volunteer at a local charity. It all adds up and it becomes “too much!”

And I know that sometimes personal-development newsletters like this sort of “pile-on” and make us feel guilty for not doing more than we can! That is never my intention! My intention is to call us back to our true selves. My desire is to focus our limited time and energy on the things that matter most. My intention is to help us use effective strategies so that our time and effort produce the results we truly want.

So, in that light, here are a few friendly reminders to make 2008 your “best year ever!”

1. We become what we think about most of the time. The old advice about positive thinking makes a difference. It’s easy to worry about problems, but if you want 2008 to be a better year, think better thoughts! Use posters, signs and small daily rituals to motivate yourself. Laugh more. Practice optimism.

2. Spend Time With Yourself. Some of us need lots of alone time, others need very little, but we all need some. Take time to think, to ponder, to dream. Schedule time to be alone and re-discover your passions, your curiosity, your strengths. Sip tea. Go for a walk. Watch a sunrise. Take notes.

3. Spend Time With People. Sometimes I think conversation is a lost art. Listen to your children. Visit a neighbor, interview a colleague and really listen to them. Make contact with an old friend, cuddle with your lover. Human connection is vital and too often we confuse passing in the hallways of life with actual intimacy. Take time to look into their eyes. Hold hands. Connect.

4. Schedule Fun First. As long-time subscribers know, I’m a fan of year-at-a-glance wall calendars and I’m convinced the first things to schedule are family birthdays, celebrations, vacations and holidays. Rarely will you look back and remember a day at the office, but you and your children will remember days at the beach, birthday surprises and special vacations for 100 years! Mark your calendars with first things first.

5. Make Goals, Set Targets. The last, and both the most important and the least important steps for success in 2008 are to plan your benchmarks. You need specific, measurable targets for every important goal, so have the courage to think them through and write them down! How much will you earn? What will you achieve in 2008? How will you measure it? Who will help you? What challenges must be solved?

These are important questions and to make 2008 your best year ever, you must ponder and answer them. But don’t confuse your business goals with living a great life! One is your job, the other is your life! Yes, we all want to make more money and be more successful in 2008, but keep things in perspective and put first things first. Enjoy yourself. Have fun. Love well. Laugh often. Then set goals, get a strategy, and make more money! I think you’ll like the results.

4. Quotes of the Week

“Maintaining a complicated life is a great way to avoid changing it.”
                                              -- Elaine St. James

"It only takes one person to change your life -- you."
                                              -- Ruth Casey

"Don't worry about whether or not I am now happy. Today is only chapter one. We have yet to write the book."
                                              -- Lois Wyse

“Start living now. Stop saving the good china for that special occasion. Stop withholding your love until that special person materializes. Every day you are alive is a special occasion. Every minute, every breath, is a gift from God.”
                                              -- Mary Manin Morrissey

5. Strictly Business:  The Tools of Your Trade

In business, there is no success without the proper tools.

Every now and then, this principle comes home in a powerful way. A year ago, Mary and I rented a condo for a delightful weekend at the beach and everything was perfect except for one thing – the tools in the kitchen were a collection of junk, including dull knives that renters would not bother to steal. I wrote a TIPS about going into town to buy a sharp, high-quality knife. When it came to carving the turkey, it made all the difference!

Recently, I had a similar experience with my computer. Practicing what I’ve recommended to others, we’ve invested in new computers and hardware so we’ll begin 2008 with faster and more reliable equipment. Unfortunately, my new desktop didn't have the "look and feel" I’ve gotten used to. Windows has an infinite number of settings and variations, and the new machine did not "feel" the way it should.

On Thursday, I had my tech guy come back and make some changes. He moved some software around, adjusted the settings and voila! "My" computer was back! It makes all the difference!

Over and over, as I coach business owners and leaders, I see them struggling with out-dated procedures, old equipment, or inadequate skills. They "can't afford" new tools. They "can't afford" to hire a coach, attend the seminars, up-date their marketing materials or learn new techniques. They "can't afford" the experts they need or the tools of their trade. No wonder they are floundering, failing and (too often) going broke!

Invest in the tools of your trade! Get the equipment to do your best work. Whether it's a major investment or just a new laptop, buy good tools! You cannot afford to handicap yourself with out-dated skills or last-year's attitudes. Invest in the tools of your trade!

6. Resources and Tools for YOUR Success!

#1 Here is the MasterMind Program I Use!
Get the Support, Resources and Tools You Need
Achieve more – BE GREAT in ’08!

TIPS subscribers know the value of a small group of dedicated partners who will support you, encourage you, hold you accountable, and most importantly, help you ACHIEVE MORE! MasterMind teams succeed!

I’ve belonged to MasterMind teams for over twenty-five years and they have helped me achieve more than I could have dreamed! MasterMind teams have an energy and an “intelligence” all their own. If you are serious about having and doing more, about achieving your goals and creating the life you want, JOIN A MASTERMIND! I can’t be any clearer!

I’ve written a book about this (see below), and you can form your own team, but why not join a program that has dozens of tools, resources, audio recordings and partners already in place? Why “re-invent the wheel?” I’ve known and worked with Michael Angier for ten years. I belong to his “Diamond Club” because it works, and because it’s fun! I hope you’ll join me! At least, check it out at:

#2 Use a MasterMind Alliance to Achieve Your Goals
Get the Support, Advice & Encouragement You Need
We All Need a Little Help from Our Friends

Every winning athlete, and successful business person has a team of experts behind them. How would you like a team of hand-picked advisors committed to your personal success? What could you do with expert advice, wise counsel, and a network of successful people at your finger-tips?

Back in 1935, Napoleon Hill wrote that a “MasterMind” group was the one essential behind every successful person he interviewed! And yet very few people create a Mastermind team to help them achieve their most important goals in life! Now you can! Most people “don’t know how” or they fear they “wouldn’t know who to ask.” Now, I’ve written the manual! I’ve create a “recipe” so you can create your own MasterMind whenever you wish! I’ve included suggestions for where, when and how often to meet. I’ve even included simple scripts to get you started. Check it out!

If success is important to you, you MUST have a MasterMind group to help you “get there.” Click for more info.

     #3 Got a Website?
     Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping carts, autoresponders and systems that were supposed to help me serve my subscribers and make money from my website. None of them worked, or more accurately they worked, but they were complex, confusing and didn't work very well. Then I discovered Don Schnure and the amazing programs he's put together. They work! They are powerful, EASY to use, and they let me automate my newsletter, my affiliate programs and my shopping cart, with no hassle! I love this! And, you can use it for 30 days to check it out. Highly recommended!

7. Humor:  Letter From A Flirtatious Old Gal (or Guy)

Bob Armstrong sends some of the gentlest, best humor and I really appreciate it! Here’s a cute note that, while I’m not quite “there” yet, is becoming slightly too familiar! Enjoy! (And, to all of you who forward humor, quotes, puns and jokes, thank you! They always make me smile and I appreciate that! Send them to me at:

Dear friends,

I have become a little older since I saw you last, and a few changes have come into my life since then. Frankly, I have become a flirtatious old gal.

I am seeing five gentlemen every day. As soon as I wake up, Will Power helps me get out of bed. Then I go to see John.

Then Charlie Horse comes along, and when he is here he takes a lot of my time and attention. When he leaves, Arthur Ritis shows up and stays the rest of the day. He doesn't like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint.

After such a busy day, I'm really tired and glad to go to bed with Ben Gay. What a life! Oh yes, I'm also flirting with Al Zymer.

Love, Your Old Friend

P.S. The preacher came to call the other day. He said at my age I should be thinking of the hereafter.  I told him, "Oh I do it all the time. No matter where I am, in the parlor, upstairs, in the kitchen, or in the garage, I ask myself....."Now, what am I here after?"

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
