1. The One-Minute TIP

There are rules and patterns, processes and principles
that make success predictable and repeatable. Apply them
and your odds of success are excellent! Ignore them and
even skill and courage may not be enough. That is why I
created The New Science of Success! We begin this Tuesday,
the 28th. There is no time to waste! Register today at:

2. Welcome Notes

This has been a busy and exciting week! From working with
new coaching clients, to time on our roof clearing off debris
and cleaning the gutters, to preparation for my new Science
of Success program, it's been hectic and rewarding. Nicely,
however, the fall colors and cool mornings have been delightful!

Bragging just a bit, the most exciting part has been the
support of expert (and famous!) colleagues for my new
Science of Success program! Michael Angier, founder of, asked to be part of it. Dr Mollie Marti
endorsed it in her newsletter. Dr Dennis Perry (of, Chicago coach par-excellence, Jerry
Pinney, Shane Fielder in Canada, and the best sales coach
I know, Debbie Mrazek, all lent their enthusiastic
support. That's heady company for me and I'm proud to have
their support!

Lots of folks have taken action and signed up, but we
still have room for you! If you'd like to be part of this
remarkable program (it starts Tuesday!), I invite you to
take action and join us at:

You'll learn the repeatable, reliable processes to achieve
your goals over and over again, for the rest of your life.
Here's a key distinction: Goals are good! Achieving them
is even better! And we can help with that. I hope you'll

3: Success Lessons from Amelia Earhart

Hoping that Mary will patiently understand, I admit I am
(sort of) in love with Amelia Earhart. I love her daring,
her confidence, her intelligence, and her poise under
extraordinary circumstances. I love her ahead-of-its-day
feminism, and her compassion. She was a superb writer. Her
sense of style launched a famous clothing line, and she
set more flying records than perhaps any person in

And for all that, I also (sort of) hate her for a crucial
flaw that ultimately killed her. More about that in a moment.

Some of you have never heard of Amelia Earhart, or know
little about her. (Sometimes I forget how little history
is taught in school these days!) Born in Atchison, Kansas
in 1897, as a child she new both wealth and poverty. She
spent much of her childhood with her wealthy grandparents
to avoid the chaos of her parents' home. Her father was an
alcoholic, and her family was frequently on the move as he
looked for work.

As a young adult, she became the first woman to fly across
the Atlantic, the first woman to do it solo, and the first
to solo from Hawaii to California. She set an astonishing
number of speed, altitude and distance records. She sat on
the Board of early commercial airlines and was instrumental
in encouraging women (and men) to fly. Franklin and Eleanor
Roosevelt were close personal friends

Tragically, she died of passionate but careless ambition
in July, 1937, just before her fortieth birthday.

Interestingly, she was not the best pilot of her time, not
even the best female pilot. She had no special training in
engineering, aeronautics, navigation, or meteorology. She
struggled with math in school and while she developed a
public face to handle her fame, in private she was shy and

So how did this quiet young woman from Kansas achieve such
extraordinary success? The lessons are there for each of
us to learn and apply.

1. She was remarkably daring. As a child she rode the
fastest horse, climbed the highest tree, tried everything,
and feared little.

2. She set extremely specific goals. She defined each
project precisely and set out to achieve it with
everything she had. Including risking her life.

3. She worked with the best. She always had extraordinary
talent on her team. From George Putnam (who became her
husband), to the pilots, engineers, and aircraft designers
on her team, she worked with the best.

4. She understood the value of planning. Every detail was
planned and organized, every contingency was covered.
Until that last flight.

She did not die from any surprise disaster. She died
because she was tired and in a hurry. She neglected
careful planning (Rule #4) and failed to master the use of
radio or to have an adequate back-up plan.

Taking off on the second-to-last leg of her round-the-
world flight, her over-loaded Electra bounced on the dirt
runway in Lae, New Guinea, causing her radio antenna to
break off. This is recorded in photographs from that day.
Had she done a simple radio check, she would have
discovered the problem and presumably returned to have it
fixed. But she didn't.

When she was in the vicinity of Howland Island, a tiny
speck in the Pacific, she had a barely-usable secondary
antenna but she never established effective contact with
Howland. With no contingency plan, she apparently turned
south-east in search of coral islands where she could
crash-land. But nobody knew that. She told no one of her
intentions and it now appears she and her navigator, Fred
Noonan, may have survived the landing only to die of
injuries and starvation because no one was searching in
that direction.

There's an old saying that, "Those who fail to plan are
planning to fail." Rarely would Earhart have been accused
of failing to plan, but this time it caught up with her.
She died of passionate-but-careless ambition.

Planning and strategy, communication and teamwork are
among the keys to success. Dreams and daring are vital but
without planning, too often we are doomed.

This is why I created my Science of Success program! There
are rules and patterns, processes and principles that make
success predictable and repeatable. Apply them and your
odds of success are excellent! Ignore them and even skill
and courage may not be enough.

The program begins this Tuesday, the 28th. There is no
time to waste! Please register today at:

HINT: Another of the key traits of winners is that, when
called for, they take immediate action! They don't wait
around, think about it or delay. They don't quibble over
details or talk themselves out of doing the right thing.
If it's the thing to do, they act quickly and decisively.

(You could even consider that the first mini-lesson of our
program. Winners take action to learn the skills and move
forward quickly.) I hope you'll join us!

4. Quotes of the Week

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our
faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the
presence of fate is strength undefeatable.
-- Helen Keller

"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important
as what you become by achieving your goals."
-- Zig Ziglar

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of
their dreams."
-- Eleanor Roosevelt

"I want to do it because I want to do it."

5. Strictly Business: Success is No Accident!

Remember the saying that those who fail to plan are
planning to fail? We have all heard it at one time or
another, and we know it's true, even though most of us act
as if it doesn't apply to us. Well, it does apply!

This week I spoke with a group of unusually successful
young entrepreneurs and the thing I noted was their
attention to detail. This particular group is part of a
network marketing, or "MLM" organization, and they know
exactly where they are going. Specifically, they have
written goals and strategies related to:

1. Identifying their key niche so they know WHO to
2. The number of prospects to contact each week.
3. A strategy and budget for reaching those prospects.
4. A detailed, documented sales presentation.
5. A follow-up strategy and a system to track it.
6. A training and mentoring program to nurture new
7. Written goals that are measured in revenues, profits,
investments, number of "associates" and productivity
per member.

No wonder this organization is growing and making money
even during this recession! They have a plan that guides
their daily activity and gives them feedback about their

Every business needs a plan, and this especially applies
to self-employed professionals. It simplifies your daily
activities, automates your priorities, and lets you know
what's working and what isn't.

If you would like help to design a proven plan (or
ďsystemĒ) and support to execute it through the year, I
encourage you to join my Science of Success program. It
begins this week so register today! Let's get started!

#4 Make Your Website Work BETTER!
Earn Passive Income!

Over the years, I've paid lots of money for shopping
carts, autoresponders and systems that were supposed to
help me serve my subscribers and make money from my website.
They all worked (sort of), but they were complex, confusing
and didn't work very well. Then I discovered Don Schnure and
the amazing programs he's put together. They work! They are
powerful, EASY to use, and they let me automate my
newsletter, my affiliate programs and my shopping cart,
with no hassle! I love this! And, you can use it for 30 days to
check it out. Highly recommended! (Full disclosure -- I
earn a commission if you sign up for 1Automation, but I've used
it for years and recommend it because it's worked really,
really well for me.)

7. Humor: Revised Hits of the 60ís

Dolly Howard sends me lots of tidbits and chuckles, and
she sent me these. While I absolutely deny Iím getting old
enough to find any of this personally humorous (thatís my
story and Iím sticking to it), I thought they might make
some of you other ďboomersĒ smile. Enjoy!

It was fun being a baby boomer... until now. Some of the
artists of the 60's are revising their hits with new
lyrics to accommodate aging baby boomers.

They include:

Herman's Hermits--- Mrs.. Brown, You've Got a Lovely

Ringo Starr--- I Get By With a Little Help From Depends.

The Bee Gees--- How Can You Mend a Broken Hip.

Bobby Darin--- Splish, Splash, I Was Havin' a Flash.

Roberta Flack--- The First Time Ever I Forgot Your Face.

Johnny Nash--- I Can't See Clearly Now.

Paul Simon--- Fifty Ways to Lose Your Liver

The Commodores--- Once, Twice, Three Times to the

Procol Harem--- A Whiter Shade of Hair.

Leo Sayer--- You Make Me Feel Like Napping.

The Temptations--- Papa's Got a Kidney Stone.

Abba--- Denture Queen.

Tony Orlando--- Knock 3 Times On The Ceiling If You Hear
Me Fall.

Helen Reddy--- I Am Woman, Hear Me Snore.

And my personal favorite:

Leslie Gore--- It's My Procedure, and I'll Cry If I Want To.

Be kind to yourself and to someone else, and have a
wonder-FULL week!
